BACK IN AUGUST, the world was obsessed by the first season of Stranger Things – and Netflix is sustaining that obsession by slowly drip feeding us information about the next.
Some new images from the show have been released, and while they don’t give away much, we’re starting to slowly piece together what’s going on in Season 2. Here’s what we know so far.
What do we know about the plot?
The second season is one episode longer and will be set in 1984, a year after the events of the first – and the lads are bet into Ghostbusters:
Although the Demogorgon was (seemingly) defeated, we will be seeing “a little bit more” of the Upside Down. As creator Matt Duffer told Entertainment Weekly:
We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of… if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there?
From the teaser trailer, we can surmise that Will Byers is still connected to the dark underworld in some way, and he’s about to wreak havoc. Look at this yoke!
Interestingly, Matthew Modine (scary bad Dr Brenner) has signed on to appear in season two despite appearing to meet his maker in the first. What are you up to, Dr Brenner?
Will we be seeing any new characters?
Yes, and they’ve rounded up some more 80s icons to play them. Sean Astin of The Goonies/Lord of the Rings will play a ‘kind-hearted nerd’ who went to high school with Joyce Byers – and he’s courting her, much to Sheriff Hopper’s chagrin.
Paul Reiser (AKA Carter Burke from Aliens) also joins the cast as Dr Owens, a member of the Department of Energy tasked with ‘containing’ the events of the last season.
Finally, Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen will play Roman, a young woman “mysteriously connected” to the events at Hawkins lab, and who is thought to be a foil for Eleven. Oooh.
And what about Eleven?
The question on everybody’s lips. The last season closed with Sheriff Hopper leaving a plate of Eggos in the woods for…someone, but hadn’t Eleven sacrificed herself to defeat the Demogorgon? Didn’t she vanish into thin air? Well, probably not.
The trailer implies that Eleven is indeed back, and actress Millie Bobby Brown appeared with the rest of the young cast on a recent cover of Entertainment Weekly.
Doesn’t her new hairstyle call to mind Ripley from Alien?
How long do we have to wait for it?
Erm, ages. Season Two is due to start streaming on Netflix on Halloween. We get the significance but… c’mon guys. You’re stringing us along!
